Free Thanksgiving Day meal

This insert was in our church bulletin today. I smudged out the phone number and address, since I don’t have permission from the Stanton General Store to broadcast this throughout Internetland.

I love this idea, an open table harvest buffet. Did you catch the end of that first paragraph? Today, we sometimes lose track of this meaning as commercialism has unfortunately overtaken this spirit of giving and sharing.

Sometimes?? How about all the time too often? (Edited to fix my cynicism.)

Does your church do something like this for the Thanksgiving holiday? It’s interesting to note this event isn’t sponsored by a church, but by a general store. Methinks there are generous folks living a bit north from me. (I must meet them as soon as possible!)

And to my New Jersey readers: if you want to attend, let me know and I’ll set you up with the phone number and address.

  1. Good stuff; I’m tweeting this, k?

  2. OK

  3. We have an inter-denominational worship service in our community this month that raises donations for Compassion International and for the local transient fund (since we’re on the crossroads of two interstates, we get a lot through here). The service is nearly all music, and involves people from all the churches and a wide variety of styles of music. Very meaningful for all1

  4. That’s great, Juli, especially that it brings several flavors of churches together. You should blog about it, I know I would link to it.

  5. My church does a few things kind of like this, but none exactly the same. We fill several boxes with everything you need to make a meal and deliver then to less fortunate families in the area. We also organize a large Thanksgiving feast for a half-way house nearby and our seniors’ group holds a banquet as an outreach to elderly neighbors who don’t have family in the area.
