I’ll write about a pool, but the picture is of rockets

Because it’s my blog. And I don’t feel like going into the house to get my camera.

We don’t have a pool. Not a proper, adult sized pool. Just the blow-up kiddie type. But - and I’m sure any mother would agree - kids will play in any size puddle. It’s funny to watch them. 9, 8, 6 (tomorrow! my firecracker boy) and the 3 year old. The big ones look silly. The smallest child looks okay. The sad thing is, she gets the least amount of pool time, due to the fact that the boys have figured out a way to use the sides as a mini trampoline.

It’s video camera worthy, that trick. But the video camera is in the house with the pocket camera, so not today.

They get in the pool, wade around a bit, splash the girls, the whining starts. Lots of “Mommy! Mommy! The boys are… ” Fill in the blank. The boys get tired, get out, sit in the sun. Girls in the pool, singing songs. A bee could be half way across the yard and the 9 year old squeals in terror. I keep telling them someday we’ll have a real pool, one that gets snow covered in the middle of winter and requires chemicals to keep the water from turning green. No hurry. In the meantime, we’ll make do with out kiddie pool and scam invitations to a friend’s house.

Now, for the rocket picture. Last night, we took the two model rockets Doc built with the boys to a local park to set them off. The boys had a blast (you know I was going for that pun). The girls could do without it, which I don’t understand because I loved all that stuff when I was a girl. It’s the noise they don’t like and I’m sure that’s part of the allure for the boys.

Here are my boys - and my husband is the biggest kid of all. You moms know all about that too. These men, they grow up, yet never outgrow that playfulness. Or, as we say when it’s annoying and inappropriate, like burping at the dinner table, “acting like a child.” Please tell me it’s not just my husband… please.

Have a great weekend, everyone. Enjoy those BBQs, sparklers and fireworks. Stay safe. Kiddie pool, above ground or shore. Have fun in your puddle of choice and I’ll see you (blog you?) on Monday.
